daughter of the diaspora:

great points. One of the things I was discussing with a good male friend of mine is that a lot of the times a lot of people (the writer of both articles, "He's just not that into you", steve harvey (lolz) are focused on giving women rules for how to find a man, how to keep a man, how to identify a good one, etc.

meanwhile, a lot of men--especially men my age--are just as clueless about how to deal with dating and relationships

in fact, i bet if you were to ask men about this, they'd confirm that fact.

i'm not sure what it would take to start shifting so that both sides are part of the dialogue....one could argue that if you wrote relationship books/articles for men they wouldn't read them/money wouldn't be made....i'm wondering how true that is though.

okay so I read the first article, and went back to read the follow up. I think they are saying some of the same things but his tone is so much more accusatory to the Black women he is speaking too. He makes some of the SAME points as the original article which means that is not that much of a vice versa response piece.

My issue is that both men and women are looking at Black women and telling them what they should or should not do. BOTH SIDES of the fence are rather focused on our role, our actions, our fixing of the issue. I am waiting for the response article that says what men can learn from Barack about dating!!!! Michelle is beautiful!! I love her style and energy but she has hard, firm opinions, she is dark skin with only shoulder length hair and as someone on the ROOT said, she is no Beyonce or video comparrison. She does not have a butt that could get her any where near KING mag (before it closed) or get her a spread on playboy. She shops at a variety of stores including simple style brands that are not high end. The list could continue into another article.
And I know I am late about reading the newer article, but can someone, anyone talk about how both "sides" of this discussion are all telling women what to do, how they need to change their standards, see things differently, how they need to change? Please and thank you!

I love you because no matter where we're coming from, you never retreat on your positions outside of doing so on your terms.

So, to you, I hop up out the bed, hit snooze until party time and then crank GO GIRL! before telling you to put on ya' dancing shoes 'cause it's girls night & missE is raring to cruise this weekend...

On 2nd thought, though, I do think Erin Obama sounds nice. Maybe I'll Demi Moore their yet to be born son!
